Insane

“It’s been insane,” Jake Meyers, an employee at Rocky Mountain Guns and Ammo in Parker, Colorado said Monday…

Meyers was referring to this:

Background checks for people wanting to buy guns in Colorado jumped more than 41 percent after Friday morning’s shooting at an Aurora movie theater, and firearms instructors say they’re also seeing increased interest in the training required for a concealed-carry permit…

Let’s get one thing clear: Americans have the right to bear arms.

In the wake of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, the gun-control debate has been at fever-pitch. The NRA has renewed the narrative that Obama is going after their guns. Not true. Not true before Aurora, not true after. However, there have been calls to ban assault weapons, limit ammunition sales, and other ideas that will never pass muster with most Americans; by some politicians.

Those who support gun-control legislation think it’s insane that a person like James Holmes could so easily get his hands on weapons that could do so much damage. Those who oppose gun-control legislation think it’s insane that a person like James Holmes could so easily get his hands on weapons that could do so much damage.

The only difference is how to fix the problem. Do we ban assault weapons, or focus on mental health issues. The sad truth is that there will be another violent act like this. And another. And another. No matter what we do.

  1. Best of luck with your new blog. While I agree that President Obama has shown little inclination to fight for gun control, I would recommend that you refrain from writing sentences such as: “The NRA has ramped-up their cry that Obama is goin’ fer yer guns.” Belittling the intelligence of your political opponents in such a heavy-handed (and frankly insulting) manner will make it difficult (if not impossible) for you to bring them over to your point of view. And if you’re not trying to make your case to your political opponents, all you’re doing is preaching to the choir. After all, as a self-proclaimed centrist, I imagine that you would be interested in reaching across the aisle. Anyway, as I said before, good luck with your blog.

    1. Thank you, Daniel. I welcome criticism. Edited that part out.

  2. I would have to say I side with rehabilitation rather than throwing more of our liberties out the window. However, I do believe that there are some things we can do to stop these occurrences and others, like rape and theft.

    1. Thank you, R. I. I’d welcome anything that would help without infringing upon our liberties.
